Autism

Children with autism have impairment in Socialization, Restricted and Repetitive Behaviors, and Communication.

Social Interaction

  • Not actively participating in simple social play
  • Poor peer relationship
  • Poor eye contact

Behaviour

  • Enjoy repetitive activity
  • Fascination with movement e.g. spinning wheels
  • Insistence on sameness e.g. Same route to school
  • Resistances to changes in environment

Communication

  • Delay in development of spoken language
  • Inability to understand simple questions, directions or jokes
  • Delayed or immediate echolalia
